Twitter:
Like it or not Twitter is a massive website with massive traffic. Massive traffic = massive spider activity. In the day of caffeine and the “real time web” these sites are your BEST tool to getting indexed. How do you achieve this result? Do you have a twitter account? If not GET ONE JUST FOR THIS PURPOSE!
Here is how simple this tactic is:
- Setup account
- Fill in profile
- Add your link
Voila! Here is a great example of how this looks once completed:
Google visits your Twitter page, Google follows links, Google finds your new content. So this is great if you have a Twitter account and especially great if you have a Twitter account with 200 or more followers.
Digg:
Digg doesn’t get enough credit for how great of a site it is and how great of a tool it can be for you as a web marketer. Much like Twitter, it gets boat-loads of traffic and thus lots of action from Google. Links on Digg get rapidly spidered and actually have a tendency to get some nice free backlinks, as well, if your story is made popular. That’s a lesson for another day though.
How easy is this one you ask? Just setup an account and submit a new link!
Just pick a news article and post in your link to the content you want spidered. Chances are you won’t get “Dugg”, but who cares. We just want the link and not necessarily the traffic. Google will see you and follow your link. This tactic can be used on the following sites as well:
- reddit.com
- stumbleupon.com
- delicious.com
- propeller.com
- newsvine.com
Youtube:
Much like the previous websites, (see a pattern forming here) YouTube is a massive website which gets tons of traffic.
High Traffic = High Spider Activity
Like the other websites, YouTube is free to join and this tactic is free and easy. Not that YouTube isn’t a major source of traffic as it is, people overlook it for tactics like this. Here is how it works.
Simply setup a “channel” in youtube and add some content to it. If you’re not video savvy, I have an alternative: http://animoto.com. Animoto is a free website which allows you to stream together a set of images and put it to music. It looks slick and gets you into video with no extra cash.
Meta Websites:
So let’s assume you are not willing to setup content on each of the sites I mentioned above and you’re looking for another option. It just so happens I have one…
Across the internet, there are lots of websites which are designed to capture usage stats and report on estimated traffic numbers. These sites are both an excellent tool for getting new sites indexed AND for grabbing a few new links.
